Cloudflare Registrar charges registry wholesale prices plus the ICANN fee with no markup. As of October 2026 a .com domain costs $10.46 per year for registration, renewal or transfer. The service launched in 2018 and is ICANN-accredited under IANA 1910.

Users must route domains through Cloudflare authoritative nameservers. This setup enables free DNSSEC, domain lock and WHOIS redaction on eligible extensions but prevents use of external DNS providers.

Cloudflare Registrar Pricing and Supported TLDs

Pricing stays fixed at wholesale levels. A five-year .com commitment totals approximately $52.30. Verisign raises the wholesale .com price to $10.97 on November 1, 2026, so Cloudflare renewals will move to roughly $11.17. No introductory discounts or renewal surcharges apply. The registrar currently supports between 390 and 414 top-level domains, including .com, .net, .org and many country-code extensions. IDN domains remain unavailable.

Transfers follow standard ICANN rules, including a 60-day lock after changes. Domains must already use Cloudflare DNS before a transfer can complete. The Registrar API reached expanded beta status in 2026, allowing search, registration and transfer operations through code or command-line tools.

Key Features, Security Defaults and User Limitations

Core security features activate automatically: one-click DNSSEC signing, registrar lock and privacy redaction where permitted. Integration with Cloudflare DNS, CDN and SSL certificates occurs without extra configuration. The service offers no email hosting and minimal beginner documentation.

Cloudflare Registrar does not support external nameservers. Frequent DNS changes outside the platform require a different provider. Non-technical users may find the mandatory DNS migration and limited support options challenging. Recent API improvements help developers automate tasks, yet broad TLD coverage and email services remain unavailable.

Common complaints center on the nameserver requirement and lack of customer support for basic questions. Positive reports highlight predictable renewal costs and reliable security defaults. Review sites such as StartupOwl and DomainOffer note the service suits long-term holders already using Cloudflare services.

Competitor Comparison and Practical Considerations

Compared with Namecheap and GoDaddy, Cloudflare Registrar shows lower long-term costs. Five-year .com renewals at Namecheap often exceed $85 and at GoDaddy exceed $92 when listed rates are used. Both competitors allow external nameservers and provide email forwarding options that Cloudflare omits.

Potential issues include the November 2026 price adjustment, absence of IDN support and the inability to test external DNS configurations. Users should verify current TLD eligibility and complete a DNS setup test before initiating any transfer.

Frequently asked questions

Does Cloudflare Registrar allow external nameservers?

No. Every domain registered or transferred to Cloudflare Registrar must use Cloudflare authoritative nameservers. External DNS providers cannot be used while the domain remains at the registrar.

What is the current .com renewal price at Cloudflare Registrar?

As of October 19, 2026, a .com domain renews for $10.46 per year. The price will rise to approximately $11.17 after Verisign increases its wholesale rate on November 1, 2026.

How many TLDs does Cloudflare Registrar support?

The service supports between 390 and 414 extensions. Popular options include .com, .net and .org, but IDN domains and certain newer extensions such as .ai or .io are not available.

Is Cloudflare Registrar suitable for non-technical users?

The service offers limited documentation and no email hosting. The mandatory DNS migration and lack of beginner-friendly support make it less suitable for users who prefer simpler interfaces or external nameserver flexibility.

i transferred two .coms last month and the whole process took about 10 days because of the old registrar's approval wait. after that the at-cost pricing was great, but i still dont like being forced to use their nameservers.
