API access opened the same day through the Canva Connect Public REST API. Developers send requests to POST /v1/image-generations with the model identifier craft_v1_2k. Jobs run asynchronously and typically complete in 50 to 60 seconds. The endpoint requires the asset:write scope and image_generation capability, with a rate limit of 20 requests per minute. Canva Shield moderation rejects unsafe prompts.

API Access, Pricing Structure, and Practical Limits

Canva Craft does not carry a separate fee. It draws from the same monthly AI allowance that covers other Canva AI tools. Free accounts receive up to 20 combined Standard and Premium uses per month. Pro accounts at roughly US$144 per year receive up to 200 Premium uses. Business plans provide higher quotas under fair-use rules. Exact credit consumption per Craft generation remains unspecified, though complex prompts draw more credits.

API calls also consume user credits. The current preview supports offered aspect ratios with additional ratios planned. Faster variants labeled Craft-fast and Craft-ultrafast are listed as future releases. MCP integration for third-party agents is scheduled but not yet live. Text output works in 55 languages, and the model handles prompts in any language.
